Took my semi regular noontime walk today. I actually didn’t think I’d be able to, it was threatening to rain most of the morning. I don’t need much of an excuse to not get out and exercise even though I know I have to. I’m still on my calorie watch, trying to lose some pounds. I’m not seriously overweight, just need lose about 25 more pounds
But given the overcast, it was perfect for some close up work. So as I began my walk I started to look for opportunities for some macro work. I didn’t see much until I passed by this flower almost standing by itself on the frontage of one of the big, luxury houses I pass by.
I got down on my knees for this one and worked it as hard as I could to get a sharp shot handheld. I processed it in Nik’s Color Efex Pro 4, now my favorite post processing software. Hope you enjoy this one. Since tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, trust you can find some flowers to take home to your sweetheart…hint, hint!

Price Center UC San Diego: 41.366
Today’s Project366 contribution is a shot of the dining area at the Price Center, UC San Diego.
I was a bit conflicted about this one. I actually liked the overall scene but the big pole in the center right of the frame made me think long and hard about using it. So I worked it in Silver Efex Pro 2 as a black and white and actually grew into it. I liked the tones I got from the shades of light in this large atrium. Hope you’re ok with it too.

Two Up: 40.366
Surf’s up in San Diego! We have huge waves in Southern California today that are forecasted to hang around till Friday afternoon. They’re not only big but they’re glassy and smooth, no wind driven stuff. I shot this with my Nikon D300 using a 17-55mm with a significant amount of crop to get this detail. I forgot to take along my 70-200mm which would have been perfect. But it holds up pretty well so I thought I’d use it for today’s Project366 contribution.

I took a tour of some of our facilities at our MPL facility at Point Loma today
We have a couple of vessels there that UC San Diego operates. One of them is the FLIP and the other is this trimaran that operates autonomously without any crew. It has satellite managed control of the navigation and steering systems.
